There is little doubt that a sound, strong foundation in decoding helps children lay a solid foundation for reading. Sound Reading and the Sound Board do exactly that and pave the way for focusing on reading for pleasure and purpose.

One third of each of my retirement year has been dedicated to working face to face with students who are print challenged. However, the current pandemic has brought this volunteer project to an unexpected screeching halt since it involved traveling to the Caribbean and Central America. I have used the pandemic lock down to organize and make available free to all material which can help in initiating students into the world of print as well as improving weak decoding skills for others.
